Wildfire Restaurant Auckland

Hi Wildfire (Auckland). I wanted to give you some feedback about my experience at your restaurant recently. I had come for dinner with some friends and the staff for most part were friendly and professional while some appeared very serious but service was still good. But I do have to mention that one staff member while explaining the menu made sure to then turn their attention to me and look at me straight in the eyes to make me aware that the restaurant serves beef. Your staff member did not look at anyone else at my table who were predominantly Caucasian, when he mentioned that. I am not going to mention my ethnic background but I am definitely not Caucasian. I felt stereotyped possibly because of the color of my skin or that I look like I am from a particular ethnic background maybe, that made your staff member say that to me. While I took the staff member's comment in my stride and made him/her aware that I was more than okay with that; soon after he left, even my friend made a comment that the staff member made the comment only to me possibly because of my ethnic background. It was that obvious! This made me slightly uncomfortable but not completely surprised as many people are not very well informed about other cultures. Even if it was your staff member's duty to point that out as part of their job, this staff member could have made everyone at the table aware rather than solely looking at me. Maybe you should make your staff more aware of how they or their comment might come across to customers who are not Caucasian. Felt very stereotyped! Otherwise, the food was really good but was slightly overpriced.
